Jayamala wants to work with Mani

Dr. Jayamala wants to make a film on Rani Abbakka and she wants noted director Mani Ratnam to direct it. She was speaking at the pre-launch of Master at hotel Le Meridian on Wednesday in Bangalore. The film features Dr. Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini Mani Ratnam.

Rani Abbakka was the queen of Ullal near Mangalore in the 16th century. She fought hard against the colonization efforts of the Portuguese. Dr. Jayamala said that the subject has been lingering in her mind for long and she wishes to get the consent of Mani Ratnam to direct it. Apparently, Dr. Jayamala also hails from the Tulunadu where Rani Abbakka ruled. She opined that Mani Ratnam has the right attitude to understand the cultural backdrop of the film, so the religious integrity with which the Muslims, Hindus and Jains fought against the Portuguese should interest him. She revealed that nine writers and historians have already prepared a research work on the subject.

Suhasini replied to Dr. Jayamala"s question that her husband is willing to take up outside banner projects and the only criterion is a solid story. She promised her that she will definitely discuss it with her husband. Dr. Jayamala further explained her plans for the film that she wants to bring in top actors like Mammootty and Shahrukh Khan. For the Queen Abbakka's role, she will find a beautiful and charming girl.
