Antony Jayanth, who produces and directs the film, says Minugu is different from the two earlier films which depicted the unseen lives of actresses. Earlier, Kannada film Ranganayaki and Telugu film Shivarajini had effectively portrayed the life of actresses behind the screen.
Sunil Rao plays the role of an aspiring cycling champion, hailing from a middle class family. He is also the college friend of Pooja Gandhi who rises to the top as the number one heroine. Ajith Hande, who is a successful ad film maker, makes his entry into big screen by playing the anti hero in Minugu; lovely Akshatha Raghunath dons the role of second heroine. Pooja Gandhi has worked real hard and lost 4 kg to portray the role of the glamorous actress.
Pooja Gandhi, who is now the third-highest paid actress in Sandalwood, appears as an actress opposite Sunil Rao in her forthcoming film Minugu which captures the inner life and struggles an actress has to face while attaining the much-sought stardom. Minugu went on the floors recently in Bangalore with KFCC president Dr. Jayamala lighting the lamp and real star Upendra sounding the first clap.
