Kannada Television Artistes Who Made It Big In Films
Television industry might be considered a smaller industry compared to films, but it has proved time and again that it has a wider-reach. Not to forget, small screen gives popularity to talents in a very short time and makes an actor, a star overnight. Though remuneration is less in the industry, it becomes a platform for budding actors.
For many it is a good stage to showcase their acting abilities to the world. We could see a lot of stars today, who started their acting career in television serials, moved towards films and became stars. Take for an example of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan. He worked in television serials like Circus in the late 1980s. Today, he is one of the biggest stars in Indian films!
Well, it is not only about actors becoming film stars, but there are also people from other departments like direction, cinematography, etc., where people have become famous in films after working in small screen. For example, successful directors like Yogaraj Bhat and Suri were working for a few television serials before venturing into films.

Prakash Rai
Prakash Rai, who rechristened himself as Prakash Raj after moving to other industries, was a well-known face on television. He had worked in popular TV show Guddada Bhutha. He was also seen in Bisilu Kudure.
He later took up supporting roles in Kannada films like Raamachari, Nishkarsha and Lockup Death. His unique dialogue delivery style and mannerism were noticed by K Balachander. And he entered other language movies. He did not taste success in his attempts to become a hero, but became a star in negative roles. Today, he is one of the most sought after supporting actors in South films.
Ramesh Aravind
Ramesh Aravind started his career with television show Parichaya. Like Prakash Raj, his talent was also recognised by K Balachander. He made his debut in Sundara Swapnagalu and he never looked back.
Darshan
Life was not a bed of roses for Darshan, the son of veteran actor Tugudeepa Srinivas. Even though he had a filmy background, he did not get opportunity to become a hero. He worked as an assistant to few directors before making his debut in small screen.
He was seen in popular serials like Ambika, Srimathi and Vaishnavi. He made his debut in films in Majestic, which changed his life forever.

Yash
Rocking Star Yash, whose star image is growing with each films, had worked in Nanda Gokula and Uttarayana. He always wished to make it big in films.
Yash made his acting debut in Shashank's Moggina Manasu. Not only as a lover boy, but also as an action hero, he has won the audience heart.
Radhika Pandit
Radhika Pandit is yet another face from television industry who has become very popular in films. In fact, she is the next Kannada-based actress after Golden Girl Ramya to have earned a stardom in Sandalwood.
Duniya Vijay
Duniya Vijay had dreams to work in films. He had acted in miniature roles in some serials including Paapa Pandu. Now, he is one of the busiest actors in Kannada.
Meghana Gaonkar
Meghana Gaonkar, who has become a household name with superhit movie Charminar starring Prem Kumar, is a well-known face for television audience.

Harshika Poonachha
Harshika Poonachha has an interesting journey. She started her acting in a movie named PUC at the age of 18. Parvathi Menon

Srinagar Kitty
Srinagar Kitty was a well-known face on small screens. He used to anchor some shows and was part of some serials like Chandrika, Preethigagi, Ananda Sagara, Mane Mane Kathe, etc.
