Sandalwood's ace director D Rajendra Babu's sudden death has shocked the Kannada film industry. The director breathed his last on the way to the hospital after he suffered severe heart attack, in his residence on Sunday, November 3. He is survived by his actress-wife Sumitra and daughters Uma and Nakshatra.
After hearing the news, the eminent personalities of Sandalwood rushed to the director's residence and payed their last tribute. Actors like Shivaraj Kumar, Ganesh, Upendra, Hema Chowdary, Doddanna, Lakshman were seen in the funeral.
Actors-turned politicians like Ambareesh, Jaggesh and Ramya aka Divya Spandana also visited Rajendra Babu's residence and payed their last tribute to the legend. Rajendra Babu, who made his debut as director with Jiddu in 1983, was known for the family entertainer movies.
Some of Babu's notable works are Nanu Nanna Hendathi, Olavina Udugore, Ramachaari, Ramarajyadalli Rakshasaru, Halunda Thavaru, Appaji, Diggajaru, Amma, Encounter Dayanayak, Uppi Dada MBBS and Bindaas. Presently, Rajendra Babu was directing Aryan starring Shivaraj Kumar and Ramya in the leads. The crew was likely to wrap up the shoot by the year end.

Shivaraj Kumar has worked with the director in the movies like Preethse, Kurubana Rani, Devara Maga, Krishna Leele and Yaare Nee Abhimani. The actor and director had joined hands after a decade for Aryan.
"Babu's death was quite unexpected. May his soul rest in peace," said actor-director Upendra. He has worked with the director in the movies like Preethse, Hollywood and Uppi Dada MBBS, which also marked the on-screen debut of Rajendra Babu's daughter Uma.
Actor-politician Ramya said that Rajendra Babu was a very affectionate person and actors felt free in his company while shooting. She tweeted, "Really saddened.. D Rajendra Babu sir was such a nice person.. Spoke to him a while ago he was supportive of my new responsibility."
Ramesh Aravind, who was seen in cameo role in Rajendra Babu's Yaare Neenu Cheluve tweeted, "RIP..dir D.Rajendrababu..he knew his craft so well."
"Heard about the sudden demise of an extremely talented senior director Rajendra sir .... A huge loss to the industry :( u will b missed," Ragini tweeted.
Harshika Poonacha tweeted, "RIP D Rajendra babu sir. The ever energetic and veteran director. Will miss u a lot."
Pranitha Subhash tweeted, "Saddened to hear about the sudden demise of veteran director D Rajendra Babu sir.. May his soul rest in peace."
Rajendra Babu made his debut as director with Jiddu starring Tiger Prabhakar and Jayamala in the leads. He married the multi-lingual actor Sumitra.
