The latest buzz from Kannada industry says, when Upendra heard the plot and his role in Basavanna, he was thrilled, and suggested the crew to rename the movie as Om 2.
Speaking to a regional daily, director Srinivas Raju of Dandupalya fame said, "I was overwhelmed to hear it from Upendra, who said the movie's plot is same like Om. He was very happy with the movie's plot and his role."
In early July, Karnataka State Government had ordered Karnataka Film Chamber Of Commerce to cancel the title, which was given for the movie makers. 'Basavanna' is the name of a leader from one of the largest communities in Karnataka. The caption of the film and the hand gesture in the first poster created the controversy.
Om was Kannada Blockbuster, which was released in the year 1995. The movie had Shivraj Kumar and Prema in the lead roles. In a recent interview to Oneindia, Upendra, who directed the movie said, "Om is the movie that got me an identity in the Kannada film industry, and I loved working with Shivanna."
