On November 13th, the whole Kannada film industry got a shocker when a statue of the late thespian Dr Rajkumar was damaged by some unknown miscreants. The miscreants tried to burn the statue situated at Bangarappa Layout in Rajarajeshwari nagar, using Kerosene and papers. The statue was placed on Wednesday and was supposed to be unveiled on November 23rd.
Police took suo moto cognizance of the matter and filed the FIR at Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police station. Reacting to the incident, Dr Rajkumar's son Raghvendra Rajkumar said that the family was deeply hurt by this act of vandalism. Speaking to a leading daily he said, "We are against those responsible for this. It is wrong, irrespective of whose statue it is. All statues must be respected at least for the people who built it with so much love and affection."
He further added, "We're not sure about the message these miscreants wanted to convey, but we suspect that since we planned a gala inauguration event on November 23, their act was probably driven by jealousy." Raghavendra Rajkumar said that the inauguration of the Dr. Rajkumar memorial will be held according the plan and there will be no change in the dates.
The family has asked the Bengaluru Police to take swift actions against the miscreant and put them behind bars. The whole Kannada film industry has been outraged by this incident. Various actors have condemned the action and demanded punishment for the people responsible for it. The police have currently caught a few people on suspicion and are investigating the whole incident. Hopefully the people behind this ghastly act will be served justice soon.
