Karnataka State Film Awards 2016 were announced recently in a press meet called by the Jury led by Kavitha Lankesh. Interestingly, most of the awards have gone for films made by the new age film makers.

Other members in the selection committee were actress Rekha, cinematographer Basavaraj and singer Chandrika Gururaj. It seems like films which won National Awards were not considered for the selection of state awards.

Amaravathi and Jeer Jimbe have won the most number of awards this year. Amaravathi released last month but failed to do much commercially even though received rave reviews. Let's hope the film gets its due when DVDs are out or after the television premiere.

Jeer Jimbe is yet to hit the screens and with such reception from Jury, makers would want to release the film sooner. As per the reports, makers are looking to release the film by the end of May or early June.
