Cheluvina Chilipili - Review

By By: Shekhar H Hooli

Director S Narayan introduced his son Pankaj through the movie Chaitrada Chandrama, which was an utter flop. But the director seems to have gone ahead to do another movie with his son without brooding over the failure. His second venture with his son is Cheluvina Chilipili.

Cheluvina Chilipili is a love story. Although the movie apparently seems to be mere love story of two youths, it deals with the sentimental relationship between parents and children. Director has tried to bring the sentimental confliction onscreen in a beautiful way.

Though S Narayan has claimed it as the movie Cheluvina Chilipili is his own original creation, it is very clear that the movie is a remake of Telugu movie Kotha Bangaru Lokham, which was released in 2008.

The first half of the movie runs logically with story of parents" dreams about their children"s future and children ignoring their interests. But the second half takes brisk pace with college scene, love sentiment and comic sequences.

Balu (Pankaj) is the only son of middle class father and mother (Ananth Nag and Sumalatha). Swapna is the daughter of a rich and strict father (Rajendra Karanth). Balu and Swapna join a residential college to pursue PUC studies. Both fall in love with each other. Furious father stops Swapna"s education. What happens next will form the climax of the movie.

Director S Narayan has put lot of effort in depicting the relationships, differences and family problems. But he has still failed to get a hero-image for his son. Although actor Pankaj has improved a lot when compared to his previous movie, he has still lot more to learn in acting.

Actress Roopika, who entered film industry as a child actress, has given wonderful performance. She rocks the audiences in all kinds of sequences. Ananth Nag, Sumalatha, Rajendra Karanth, Kote Prabhakar, Dwarkish and Sundar have done justice to their respective roles.

Some sequences of Cheluvina Chilipili have been canned in beautiful locations of Germany and Austria. Jagadish Wali"s camera work remains as the highlight of the movie. He has got good visual effect for the movie. Mickey J Mayer, who has scored music for Kotha Bangaru Lokam, has failed to play a magic through his music in the movie. But the song 'Nijana" continues to haunt the minds of the audiences, even when they go out of the theatre.

In a nut Shell, the movie Cheluvina Chilipili is a family entertainer. One can watch it once and enjoy.
