Another award for Classmates

The Mathrubhumi film awards jury has judged Lal Jose"s campus-based film Classmates as the best film for 2006. The movie also bagged the best lyrics award for Vayalar Sarath.

The best actor and actress awards go to Mammootty and Padmapriya for their roles in Palunku and Vadakkumnathan respectively. Palunku bagged two more awards; these are best supporting actor for Jagathy Sreekumar and best child artiste award for Niveditha. Meanwhile, Vadakkumnathan also bagged three more awards, namely best scriptwriter award for Girish Puthenchery, best background score for Ouseppachan and a special award for excellence in acting to Mohanlal.

The best director award went to Sathyan Anthikkad for Rasathanthram. The film also bagged the best cinematography award for Azhakappan and the best art director award for Prasanth Madhav. Filmmaker Major Ravi and producer R.B. Choudhary have won the special jury award for Keerthichakra. The technical editor award would be presented to V. Jayasankar, again for Keerthichakra.

Veteran singer Vineeth Srinivasan has won the best playback singer award. The Mathrubhumi-PSS Ltd. Film Awards will be presented during a function organized by the Malayalam daily, Mathrubhumi in the second week of October.
