One significant feature is that all the actors in the movie are school-going students from the locality. Kaliyorukkam, produced by the Kannapuram Grama Panchayath in Kannur District, Kerala, with the financial aid of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), presented the venture of a group of children to create a football ground; the senior boys of the village successfully took over the ground for foot ball coaching. The film was later screened at the Press Club.
The film, directed by S. Sunil, was seen as an experiment in film-making. The entire 50-minute movie was shot at the panchayat which allocated Rs.3 lakh for the film venture; Rs.3 lakhs each was mobilised as subsidy from the KSFDC and donation from the public.
