MACTA files case against FEFKA

The Federation of Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) has filed a complaint with the Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate alleging that Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), a breakaway faction of technicians in the Malayalam film industry, used the name of Chennai-based Indian Film Employees Confederation (IFEC) to collect money from its members.

FEFKA was formed at a general body meeting held at the YMCA Hall in Kochi on Monday. It has chosen writer B. Unnikrishnan as the first president, director Sibi Malayil as the general secretary and director Jose Thomas as treasurer. Velayudhan Keezhillam, P.V. Sankar, Vijaya Kumar, Jaffer Kanjirappally were elected as vice presidents.

Reacting to the allegations against FEFKA, treasurer Jose Thomas explained that he was not at all aware of any funds collection drive undertaken by the federation. However, the court has instructed Tripunithura Hill Palace Police to register a case against FEFKA on the charge of cheating. The major allegation is that FEFKA is collecting membership and monthly fees from members of MACTA.

FEFKA, which was formed after a dispute in director Vinayan led MACTA, is recognized by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). It has veteran directors like Joshy, I.V. Sasi, Siddique, Lal as its members.
