Onam is the most important festival season for Malayalam cinema with schools, colleges and offices closed for nearly one week and people thronging theatres to watch their favourite stars. But unlike previous years, this year seem to witness a low-key Onam, because not many movies featuring superstars are lined up for release.
Mohanlal's Madambi and Mammootty's Parunthu are set to release in July, much before Onam.
Mohanlal, currently working on Madambi will start shooting for Kargil next week. Kargil seems to be the movie which has a slight chance of making it to theatres this Onam. The film is directed by Major Ravi (of Keerthi Chakra fame) and produced by Santosh Damodaran under the banner Damor films. The story is based on Pakistan's intrusion into Indian territory and the resultant war between the two countries.
Others in the cast include Tanya Singh, Padmapriya, Siddique, Biju Menon and Suraj Venjaramood.
