Shaji ropes in Mammootty

Shaji N. Karun made his directional debut with the Malayalam film Piravi, which won him the prestigious Camera d'Or Mention d'honneur at the Cannes Film Festival. He also did a film Vaanaprastham starring Mohanlal in the lead in 1999.

Shaji N. Karun will now be directing superstar Mammootty in the upcoming Kutty Shranku based on the story of a mariner, played by Mammootty. The movie, being produced by Anil Ambani's Reliance Entertainment, will have three female leads.

The director is planning to hold the world premiere of the film at the Vince Film Festival in September.
