Murali cremated with full state honours

Malayalam-Tamil actor, Murali, who died on Thursday, April 6, was cremated with full state honours on Friday evening. The cremation was on the banks of the river Karamana at Aruvikkara near Thiruvananthapuram and the funeral pyre was lit by Deepu, the actor"s nephew.

A lot of people turned up to pay their tribute to the actor. The Chief Minister, V.S. Achuthanandan, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy, the cabinet ministers were some of them, to name a few.

His body was taken to his ancestral home at Kudavattoor near Kottarakkara in Kollam, on Friday morning. It was kept at the LP School for people to pay homage to the actor. It was then brought back to Thiruvananthapuram and kept at the University Senate Hall for the film fraternity and millions of fans to pay their last respects.

Murali, 55, had won the National Award for best actor for his role (Bharath) in 2001 for his performance in Neiythukaaran (Weaver). He also won four other State Awards for acting. He had acted in about 200 films in his career of 30 years.
