Divakaran's
'Kadhayum
Thirakkadhayum'
(Story
and
Screenplay),
a
book
on
filmmaking,
won
the
first
Kozhikodan
Memorial
Award
instituted
by
the
Kozhikodan
Smaraka
Samithi,
a
cultural
forum,
in
memory
of
late
film
critic
Appukkuttan
Nair
alias
Kozhikodan.
The
award,
which
is
given
to
the
best
book
on
cinema
in
Malayalam,
comprises
a
purse
of
Rs.
10,000,
sculpture
and
citation.
Literary
gaint
M.T.
Vasudevan
Nair
will
present
the
award
to
the
winner
on
the
second
death
anniversary
of
Kozhikodan
at
Town
Hall,
Kozhikode
on
January
20.
Kozhikodan,
winner
of
Kerala
Sahitya
Academy
Award
(2002)
and
Film
Critics'
Award
in
recognition
of
his
contributions
to
cinema,
died
of
old-age
related
illness
at
age
81
in
2007
(January
20).
He
began
writing
on
films
from
the
early
1950's
and
belongs
to
the
first
generation
of
film
critics
in
Malayalam.
He
wrote
many
books,
including
'Chalachithra
Sallapam',
'Chalachithra
Jalakam',
'Satyan
Enna
Nadan',
'Chalachitra
Aswadanam
Engine?'
and
'Malayalam
Cinema
-
Ente
Premabhajanam'.
