Young director's award for Madhupal

Madhupal, director of Thalappavu, the story of Naxal Varghese and Police Constable P. Ramachandran Pillai, has been selected for the young directors' award instituted by the Sohan Antony Memorial Arts Society.

Sohan Antony, who passed away last year, was a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry, The award, comprising a citation and Rs. 11,111, will be given away at a function next week, said M. Premachandran, chairman of Sohan Antony Memorial Arts Society.

Produced by Mohan under the banner of the Civic Cinema and distributed by Lal's Lal Release, Thalappavu narrates the social and political issues of the Naxalite era of the 1970s in Kerala. It stars Prithviraj, Lal, Atul Kulkarni, Rohini, and Dhanya Mary in major roles. The film, released in 2008, bagged good reviews and critical acclaim.
