Malayalam movies down the drains

Its doomsday for Malayalam movies. One after the other, the movies are bombing at the box office, failing to meet the audiences' expectations. After the devastating disaster of the Malayalam movie Sagar Alias Jackie - Reloaded, much hope was bestowed upon the successors to lead the show. Jayaram riding high with the success of Veruthe Oru Bharya was looked upon as the saviour in distress with his upcoming movie Samasthakeralam P O.

Alas! Success has forsaken the Malayalam movie industry. If Samasthakeralam P O. was expected to break the spell, the reverse has happened. It has fallen flat, crushing all hopes. Jayaram who had made a stunning comeback will have to tread carefully in these testing times. If these failures were not enough, much more was in store.

Kavya Madhavan who has left the limelight to settle in her marital life, has left behind her supposedly good work Banaras, a musical and visual extravaganza giving much importance to dance. To give an honest opinion to our viewers, 'atrocity' would be the apt word to sum up Banaras. Banaras and Samasthakeralam P O rightly define movies which can be termed as true flops.

Sureshgopi's I G too could not be a saving grace at the markets. Cliched cop roles and bombastic dialogues have left the audience craving for a refreshing change. Superstars should rightly uphold their image by doing creatively vibrant roles imbued with sensitivity and sensibility to match the modern day mature audience. It is in these odd times that one really stands by movies like To Harihar Nagar, which signal some hope at the end of the dark tunnel. However anything in the name of Malayalam movies would no longer sell!
