Mammootty gets no 'kaineettam' this Vishu

For the first time in his career spanning more than 30 years, Malayalam megastar Mammootty will have no releases for Vishu 2009! Though Mammootty currently has four films (bilingual Vande Mataram, Pazhassi Raja, Ee Pattanathil Bhootham and Kutty Shranku) in various stages of production, none will make it to theatres this Vishu.

According to sources, Mammootty's ever-delayed Vande Mataram (Aruvadai in Tamil), directed by T. Arvind, is likely to hit theatres in May-June. Starring Tamil 'action king' Arjun and Sneha in key roles, the film recently completed its climax at Red Hills, Chennai. Vande Mataram is an investigative action thriller revolving around a group of police officers who go hunting for terrorists who have been creating havoc on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.

Mammootty's forthcoming biopic magnum opus Pazhassi Raja, directed by ace director Hariharan and scripted by literary giant M.T. Vasudevan Nair, has been scheduled to grace theatres on August 15. To be simultaneously released in four Indian languages, the movie, according to its makers, will be the biggest release ever in the history of South Indian cinema with more than 200 prints.

Director Johny Antony's Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, a fantasy-filled adventure with Mammootty in a double role as a bike jumper named Jimmy in a circus company and a friendly ghost, is now scheduled to release only on May 1. However, the buzz is that the film may be postponed as the graphic works will take some more time.

Meanwhile, internationally-acclaimed director Shaji N. Karun is reportedly trying to release his Mammootty starrer Kutty Shranku in Cannes Film Festival 2009 to be held between May 13 to 24. The film"s commercial release in Kerala will take place only after it has premiered at various Film Festivals abroad, reports say.
