Jayaram to be given Civic reception at Kochi

Malayalam actor Jayaram Subramaniyam, who has been honoured with the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema, will be given a Civic reception at Kochi on Mar 11. According to sources, the function will be inaugurated by Vayalar Ravi, the Union Civil Aviation minister. The reception is being held to mark the Padma Shri honour to the star.

On the occasion, superstar Mammootty is said to be inaugurating the Jayaram Foundation, while Union minister KV Thomas would present 'Mangala Pathram' to the Mollywood star. Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany will deliver presidential address. Veterans of Malayalam film industry are expected to take part in the event.

Jayaram has received several State and National level honours and recognition, but he was surprised to hear the news about winning a Padma Shri award from Superstar Mohanlal on the sets of China Town. He had said, "It is a recognition of my work as an artist, percussionist, chenda player and mimicry artist. For a person like me, it is the ultimate recognition."

However, Jayaram, who has acted in nearly 200 films including both Tamil and Malayalam in his 25-years career, is one among the most busy actors of South Indian Cinema. Now, he is working on the projects like Make Up Man, Ponner Sankar, Menaka Talkies, Naayika, Panchamritham, Purathekkulla Vazhi, Sabash Sariyana Potti, Seniors and Golden Jubily.
