Superstar Mammootty will reportedly act in a Malayalam romantic tragedy, which would be an adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's best novel 'Balyakalasakhi'. Sources claim that the Mallu mega star would play the character of the romantic hero Majeed in the upcoming film, which would start shooting soon.

'Balyakalasakhi', which was first published in 1944, is one among the best novels written by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. The story revolves around Majeed and Suhra, who are in love with each other from childhood. Basheer himself has admitted that the story is largely autobiographical.

However, Mammootty has earlier acted in Adoor's Mathilukal, which was based on Basheer's novel. Now, his next movie Balyakalasakhi would be directed by debutant Pramod Payyannur and produced under the banners of Living Arts and Aesthes Media. Famous Ghazal singer Shahbaz Aman would compose the music for the film.
