Mammootty playing Madani in Bombay March 12

Superstar Mammootty's latest movie 1993 Bombay March 12 is releasing across Kerala tomorrow (Thursday, June 30). The film is based on the impact of the Mumbai blasts of 1993 on several individuals. The Malayalam actor is playing two real-life characters like PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani and Sameer, who were wrongly accused in different blast cases and kept in jail for several years.

Director Babu Janardanan says that he has approached the issue from the human rights angle. Talking to Deccan Chronicle, the director says, “Only the core idea is taken from real life and the rest is fiction. Madani is a political leader. But Sameer is presented as an ordinary person."

Madani was arrested in Coimbatore blast case on March 31, 1998 and he spent nine and half years in prison before being acquitted of all charges in October 2007. Sameer also spends nine and a half years in jail and is finally acquitted of all charges. Movie 1993 Bombay March 12 criticises police and judicial system of India.
