The Kamal directed movie Celluloid will be dubbed in Tamil. The
film was based on the life story of JC Daniel, who is considered as
the father of Malayalam cinema.
Celluloid movie deals with the making of Daniel's film
Vigathakumaran. It also deals with the story of
Vigathakumaran's heroine PK Rosie, Malayalam cinema's
Prithviraj and Mamta
Mohandas played the lead roles in the film. Prithviraj's role
as JC Daniel did win much appreciation in the industry and he was
awarded the Best Actor at the Kerala State Awards.
Celluloid also won the Best Film Award.
It was reported at the time of shooting that Samvrutha Sunil
will play the role of JC Daniel's wife, but later she was replaced
by Mamta Mohandas. Chandni, a singer who shot to fame through the
reality show Josco Indian Voice, was selected to play the
role of PK Rosie.
The Tamil version of the film will have the title JC Daniel. It
is presented as a tribute to Indian cinema which is celebrating its
100 years. The movie was a commercial success, which opened up to
positive reviews and received critical success too.
