Fahad Fazal is one of the most talented actors in the Malayalam film industry, and is one of the few stars who dared to experiment with new age cinema. In an industry governed mainly by superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Dileep to name a few, Fahad Fazil has already chalked a place for himself in Mollywood.
It was at the age of 19 that Fahad made his debut with the film Kaiyethum Doorath (2002) directed by his father Fazil. He then made a comeback after nearly eight years with the film Kerala Cafe (2009). Fahad soon received recognition after his outstanding performance in films such as Chaappa Kurish (2011), Akam (2011), 22 Female Kottayam (2012) and Diamond Necklace (2012).
Fahad Fazil is one of the very few stars who has proved that the Malayalam audience is mature enough to accept and comprehend offbeat cinema.

Fahad's first film Kaiyethum Doorath (2001) failed miserably and many thought it was the end of Fahad's career. However, Fahad thinks that it's not fair to blame his dad since he came into acting without any preparation.
Fahad then took a break, went to the United States to pursue his studies and returned in 2009 to act in the portmanteau film Kerala Cafe (2010), conceived by noted director Ranjith. It was Ranjith who set Fahad on his comeback trail.

After completing his school education from Choice School, Thripunithura and Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty, he entered into an engineering program, but later decided to drop out. He joined Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha, to pursue a B Com degree.
He also has a MA in philosophy from the University of Miami. Fahad had chosen an on-screen name Shaanu, but after the failure of his first film, he reverted to his birth name itself.
