Legendary singer Manna Dey died Thursday in Bangalore. He was 94. The versatile singer had a Kerala connection too. His wife Sulochana Kumaran hailed from Kannur, a districh in Kerala. Sulochana passed away last year.

Manna Dey, who was ailing for over four months, is survived by two daughters - Rema and Sumita.

Manna Dey was a versatile singer, who sang in 14 Indian languages. Dey went behind the mike to sing Malayalam songs - 'Manasa maine varu...' for 1965 film Chemmeen and 'Chemba Chemba...' for Nellu which came out in 1974. The lyrics and the music of both the songs were by Vaylar Rama Varma and Salil Chowdhury respectively.

In Hindi movies, Manna Dey proved his versatility by singing a range of songs like 'Aaja sanam madhur chandani main hum...', 'Chunari sambhal gori udi chali jaye re...', 'Zindagi kaisi hai paheli...' and 'Chalat musafir moh liyo re...'.

Manna Dey has charmed the music industry for the past long 60 years and now, when the singer is no more, all remember him and bow their heads to pay respect to the great man. He can be regarded as an unmatched musical genius, whose vacant space cannot be filled by anyone.
