Since three decades, Mohanlal as an actor, is still the superstar of Mollywood. He has acted only in a very few other language films. But still his fans are wide, deprive of the state. His first appearance in Tamil was for the movie Gopuravasalile, where he was seen in a cameo role.
His debut movie as an actor was the blockbuster film Iruvar. The movie, directed by the ace director Mani Ratnam threw light on Tamil politics, where it depicted the early friendship of MGR and Karunanidhi. Mohanlal played the role of MGR, and Prakash Raj as Karunanidhi. Aishwarya Rai was also seen in the film.
Then came the movie Popcorn, which got released in 2003. It was directed by the actor-director Nazar. The movie was a flop at the Box-Office. In 2006, Lal was again seen in the Tamil remake of Keerthichakra titled Aran, a Major Ravi film. Jeeva was his co-star in this film. The movie was a huge hit in Kollywood.
In 2009, he was seen with Kamal Haasan in Unnaipol Oruvan. The film went unnoticed, but Lal and Kamal Haasan's performance did win much applause.
Now again Lal is back to Kollywood after many years through Jilla. Vijay is his co-star in this film. Vijay plays the adopted son of Mohanlal in this flick. Poornima Jayaram is also making a comeback with this movie. He may be seen in many more movies in Kollywood, but Iruvar will always be the best of all at all times.
