Veteran Musician V Dakshinamoorthy Passes Away

Prominent Malayalam music director V Dakhinamoorthy is no more. He had composed music for more than 125 films in the industry. He was a profound carnatic musician too. He was 94 and died at his residence in Mylapore, yesterday (August 2), owing to age related illnesses.

Dakshinamoorthy Swamy and his songs always stood out for its perfection and melody. Singers including KJ Yesudas, Suseels, P Jayachandran, and P Leela have sung his songs. His song 'Hrudayasarassile...' is still regarded as one of the best composition in the Malayalam music industry.

Dakshinamoorthy Swamy has over 859 songs credited to his list. He was in the industry for more than 50 years. He also sang devotional songs, which also include many hits. Swamy had teamed up with almost all the prominent lyricist, but his combination with lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi is credited of having the maximum number of hits.

Swamy was honoured with many awards including Kerala State Best Music Director (1971), Kerala State Award for Lifetime Achievement - JC Daniel Lifetime Achievement Award from the Government of Kerala (1998), Swaralaya Yesudas Award (2007), Honoraray Doctorate by Mahatma Gandhi University (2010), Ramashramam Unneerikutty Award (2010).

Malayalam movie Mizhikal Sakshi was the his last film. He composed four songs for the film.
