Photos: Mammootty turns a grocery shop owner
Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam Superstar Mammootty is joining hands with ace director Salim Ahamed, who has bagged the National Film award for his debut movie Adaminte Makan Abu. Titled Kunjanandante Kada, their first combo movie, which is set in backdrop of the changing dynamics of matrimony, zooms into the life of an emotionally-separated couple. It has an issue-based storyline, which deals with the problem of a whole society.
Talking to The New Indian Express, Salim Ahamed says, "We live in a world of fast-paced divorces. Wedlock turning dysfunctional and the stability of marriage going for a toss is a common sight." The director adds that Kunjanandante Kada is inspired by the escalating divorce rates in Kerala.
Kunjanandante Kada is all about a troubled relationship between grocery store owner Kunjanandan and wife Chithira, who is an employee of the Cooperative Bank. They have different attitudes and outlooks. But it turns out to be a house of never-ending dissonance when they start living under one roof.
Kunjanandan is running his father's shop and it is the sole purpose of his existence. The only thing he is emotionally attached to is his shop and he is unconcerned about everything including his family. He is a man married to his trade, who lives a drab and uneventful life. Unlike other women, Chithira is not the weepy wife. She does not want to end her marriage and compromise with her destiny.

Kunjanandante Kada - An Issue-Based Film
Salim's debut film Adaminte Makan Abu was an intimate and personal account and it dealt with how an aging Muslim couple makes many sacrifices to achieve their aim to go for Hajj. Whereas his latest directorial venture Kunjanandante Kada has completely different and opposite subject to it. It has an issue-based storyline and It deals with the problem of a whole society, says the director.
Kunjanandante Kada Breaks A Myth
"Kunjanandante Kada also breaks the myth that rural regions are almost immune to this phenomenon. This is one area where there is no class difference, it's no more something that happens among the urban affluent," The New Indian Express quotes Salim as saying.
Mammootty Playing Kunjanandan
Mammootty is play the title character Kunjanandan in the movie and he will appear as a grocery store owner. Talking about him, Salim says, "Mammootty was the first and final choice for Kunjanandan."
Nyla Usha Appear As Mammootty's Wife
Debutant Nyla Usha will appear as Kunjanandan's wife Chithira. Siddique, Balachandra Menon, Yavanika Gopalakrisha and few theatre artists will be part of the cast of the film.
Kunjanandante Kada Shooting
Director Salim Ahamed has planned to shooting the movie Kunjanandante Kada in and around Palakkad. Madhu Ambatt will crank the camera for the movie.
Kunjanandante Kada To Have Sync Sound
The biggest highlight of the film is that it will have sync sound and Resul Pookutty is the sound designer. Kunjanandante Kada is expected to reach theatres soon.
