Ten highly-awaited Malayalam movies of 2013

Mollywood is one of the biggest film industries in India which produce large number of movies every year. In 2013, the Malayalam film industry has already released 60+ movies, including few dubbed films in just four and half months. As per reports, 180+ flicks are currently in the production stage. Experts from the industry say that the number of release is going to touch 200+ in the next seven and half months.

Superstars like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Dileep, Jayaram, Prithviraj have teamed up with some popular filmmakers for big budget movies, which have created lot of curiosity among film goers. Meanwhile, a few new actors, directors, producers and technicians are set to debut in the industry in the coming days. With a huge amount of money being shelled out on their movies, everyone is putting their honest effort to woo the viewers.

Films like Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty, Memory Card, Samrajyam II Son of Alexander, Left Right Left, Swapaanam, Factory, Chewing Gum, Manthirika Thakkol, Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum and Escape from Uganda are among the most-hyped and much-awaited movies of 2013. The reports and promos of these movies have soared up the viewers' curiosity to sky high.

Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty

Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty features Mammootty, Mohanlal, Dileep, Jayaram and Prithviraj in the leads. This big budget movie is all about the life of a German NRI Malayali named Mathukutty (Mammootty). It is directed by Ranjith and produced by Shaji Nadeshan under the banner of August Cinema. Alisha Mohammed, Meera Nandan, Balachandra Menon, Siddique and Shekhar Menon are also featured in the important roles. The film is shot in Kozhikode and Germany.

Scheduled as Onam 2013 release, Memory Card stars Mohanlal in the lead. P Anil is directing the movie, which is shot in Hyderabad. It revolves around the life of a retired military communications expert. Gireesh has penned the script for this action thriller. It will feature two more big names. This high profile investigation thriller will be the biggest entertainer of the year.

Samrajyam II Son Of Alexander

Samrajyam II Son of Alexander, which is made with a budget of Rs 32 crores, is a sequel of 1990 film Samrajyam. Unni Mukundan has been cast as the hero of the film, which is directed by Perarasu and produced by Ajmal Hassan and Baiju Adithya. Shot in exotic locations, Samrajyam 2 has dazzling graphics combined with latest technology and the best cast available in the industry. The film will have Sekhar V Joseph's cinematography, music maestro Ilayaraja's background score, RA Shafeer's music, Muhammed Shafeeque Koonungal's screenplay and stunt master Rockey Rajesh's action.

Swapaanam

Swapaanam is directed by renounced filmmaker Shaji N Karun and produced by M Rajan under Horizon Entertainments. The movie focus on the life of Unni, a chenda artist. Jayaram is playing the remarkable character Unnikrishnan. The film offers a realistic touch about the pain and sorrows of a creative artiste labelled by the society as a mad man. Bengali-Odissi dancer Kadambari, Siddique, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Kalamadalam Kshemavathi, Udhayan Namboodiri and P D Namboodiri will reprise important roles in it. Harikrishnan and Sajeev Pazhoor's screenplay, Sajith Nair's cameraman, Srevalsan Menon's music will be the main attractions. Another big highlight is that 150 renowned chenda players will be part of the film.

Director Arun Kumar's Left Right Left is a social thriller and its story will not have beginning, middle and end. It draws attention to the life of few characters, representatives of the current society. Indrajith, Murali Gopi, Lena and Remya Nambeesan are playing the lead roles. Produced by M Renjith under the banner of Rejaputhra Films, the movie is about the stories that happened in 60s/70s, the 80s/90s and the present.

Factory is an experimental movie with elements of suspense. Kalabhavan Navas is playing the single character, who works in a factory, while the other workers are ghosts. Produced by Inspire Films, the movie will release in five languages. It will have Vidhupal's cinematography and Roshan Joseph's music. It will be a true experience with different shades.

Romeo and Juliets is the Malayalam version of Telugu movie Iddarammayilatho. Directed by Puri Jagannath, the movie features Allu Arjun, Amala Paul and Catherine Tresa in leads. Shot in exotic locations like Spain and Bangkok, this romantic thriller revolves around the life of an Indian youngster who falls in love with two young girls while staying in Spain. It has Amol Rathod's cinematography, Ganesh Acharya's dance moves and Hollywood stunt master Kaeche Kampakdee's action.

Manthrika Thakkol 3D is the debut directorial venture of popular photographer Ramachandra Babu. The movie features Dileep in various get-ups. This 3D movie, which has Anil Mukhathala's script would be the first of its kind in the history of Indian Cinema. Sanal Thottan is producing it under the banner of New TV visual solution. Touted as a crime thriller and musical entertainer, it revolves around the life of Dr Vignesh, who is a Phd holder in psychology and would get into the magical world, which brings a lot of twists in the movie. It would be loved by children and family audience.

Shot completely in Uganda, the movie Escape from Uganda is about the life of a family, which get struck in Uganda. The struggles met out by the people makes it a complete thriller. Directed by Sudheep, The Haunting - Oru Sathyanweshanam is a psychological thriller, which will have the smallest cast of 6 people and is made with a budget of Rs 1 lakh. With no music, the movie would give the entire realistic feel throughout, which revolves around the story of three Parapsychology students who are in research to prove the existence of ghosts. The problems they encounter and the fearsome incidents would make the two-hour-long thriller much interesting to watch.
