Swapaanam was one of the most astounding movie in 2013, featuring Jayaram and Kadambari in lead roles. Directed by Shaji N Karun, the movie was the first to get premiered at DIFF. Now, the movie receives all praise from Martial Knaebel, the previous director of Fribourg International Film Festival Switzerland
Martial Knaebel wrote a letter to Shaji N karun praising the
movie. The letter is as follows: Dear Shaji, I watched your
SWAPAANAM a few days ago and wanted to let some time before writing
to you. Just to let my mind thinking. The story is strong, very
classical "Romeo & Juliet" of impossible love, between two
independent and strong characters. Strong because of their
The lady (Kadambari) charmed me with her magical dances and most
of all because of her righteousness. I liked also the room left to
the music (Chenda) which was quite a third character.
I watched with my wife Evelyn: we stayed captive during the
whole film. In brief something very good. I gave the DVD screener
to Mr.Walter for him to watch as well.

Martial Knaebel participated to the creation of the trigon-film
Foundation (1988), distributor of many Asian, Latin American and
African films in Switzerland. Now, he is member of the Foundation
Board and the executive board.
In October 2006, he received the Korean Cinema Award at the 11th
Pusan International Film Festival and was a jury member in numerous
film festivals like Cannes (2000 Jury Camera d'Or), San Sebastian
(2003 Altadis-New Directors Award Jury), etc.
He is currently working as Film Expert and consultant of Government for the distribution, promotion of films from Latin America, Asia, Africa in Switzerland.
