Director Priyadarshan has resigned from the post of chairperson of Kerala Chalachitra Academy. The director on Wednesday handed over the resignation letter to the Minister of Cinema, Thiruvanjoor Radhakrishnan. Priyadarshan was about to complete the three-year term as the chairman of Chalachitra Academy later this month. But the director decided to quit the position before the end of the term.
Minister Thirunvanjoor Radhakrishnan confirmed the news in an interview. The minister also stated that a new governing committee will be formed for the Chalachitra Academy and the new chairperson will be appointed very soon.
Reportedly, acclaimed director Rajeevnath is in the running to replace Priyadarshan.
Priyadarshan was appointed as the chairperson of Chalachitra Academy in 2012 by his close friend Ganesh Kumar, the former Minster of Cinema. The director was planning to resign since the time Ganesh Kumar has put down his papers, citing internal political issues between the academy members. The director has mentioned in the resignation letter that he is resigning due to his busy movie schedules; but the reports reveals a different story.
Acclaimed film editor Beena Paul had resigned from the Chalachitra Academy last month, citing the internal issues. She was an active member and Deputy Director of Chalachitra Academy for last 12 years. She was also the artistic director of International Film Festival of Kerala.
