2014 was not so good for the Malayalam movie industry; as the movies which met the expectations of audience were very less in number. But the industry has been lucky enough in the case of the performances by the talented actors.

Mollywood witnessed some wonderful performances by a range of talented actors this year. And it is time to decide who the best actress of the year is.

The factor which makes the year 2014, a special year for Malayalam cinema is, the comeback of the ever favorite actress Manju Warrier. The actress played the lead role in Roshan Andrews directed movie How Old Are You, after a long break of 14 years.

How Old Are You emerged as a huge critical and commercial success and Manju was well-praised for her amazing performance. The actress, who decided to be active in the field, is currently filming for the upcoming Mohanlal starrer project, directed by Sathyan Anthikad.

Nazriya Nazim is another actress who scored well in 2014. The actress had 4 releases in Malayalam including Salala Mobiles, Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Hanikaram, Om Shanti Oshana and Bangalore Days. The first two movies ended up as huge critical and commercial failures; while rest two emerged as the huge box office successes.

Anusree and Srinda Ashab are the actresses who had the highest number of releases this year. Srinda appeared in 7 movies this year; which includes blockbuster movie 1983, Masala Republic, Happy Journey, Manglish, and Tamaar Padaar. The actress earned rave reviews for her performance in 1983.

On the other hand, Anusree acted in the movie including Angry babies, Ithihasa and Seconds. Her performance in Ithihasa as a boy who transforms into a girl's physique, earned extremely positive reviews.

Aparna Gopinath, who acted in the movie Mannar Mathai Speaking 2, Happy Journey, Gangster and Munnariyippu in 2014, earned highly positive reviews for her performance in Munnariyippu. But the rest of the movies were huge box office failures.

Asha Sarath had two releases- Varsham and Angels in 2014 and she played strong characters in both the movies. Her performance as Nandini in Varsham, was highly appreciated by the audience and critics.

Kalpana, who amazed the audience as Nivin Pauly's greedy mother in Bangalore Days, surprised the audience with her role Kochuvava in the movie The Dolphins.

Bhama, who had 4 releases in 2014, earned extremely positive reviews for performance as 14 year old mother Kala, in Ottamandaram. Her other releases were critical and commercial failures.
