Who Is The Best Malayalam Actress Of 2014?

2014 was not so good for the Malayalam movie industry; as the movies which met the expectations of audience were very less in number. But the industry has been lucky enough in the case of the performances by the talented actors.

Mollywood witnessed some wonderful performances by a range of talented actors this year. And it is time to decide who the best actress of the year is.

The factor which makes the year 2014, a special year for Malayalam cinema is, the comeback of the ever favorite actress Manju Warrier. The actress played the lead role in Roshan Andrews directed movie How Old Are You, after a long break of 14 years. 

How Old Are You emerged as a huge critical and commercial success and Manju was well-praised for her amazing performance. The actress, who decided to be active in the field, is currently filming for the upcoming Mohanlal starrer project, directed by Sathyan Anthikad.

Nazriya Nazim is another actress who scored well in 2014. The actress had 4 releases in Malayalam including Salala Mobiles, Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Hanikaram, Om Shanti Oshana and Bangalore Days. The first two movies ended up as huge critical and commercial failures; while rest two emerged as the huge box office successes.

Anusree and Srinda Ashab are the actresses who had the highest number of releases this year. Srinda appeared in 7 movies this year; which includes blockbuster movie 1983, Masala Republic, Happy Journey, Manglish, and Tamaar Padaar. The actress earned rave reviews for her performance in 1983.

On the other hand, Anusree acted in the movie including Angry babies, Ithihasa and Seconds. Her performance in Ithihasa as a boy who transforms into a girl's physique, earned extremely positive reviews.

Aparna Gopinath, who acted in the movie Mannar Mathai Speaking 2, Happy Journey, Gangster and Munnariyippu in 2014, earned highly positive reviews for her performance in Munnariyippu. But the rest of the movies were huge box office failures.

Asha Sarath had two releases- Varsham and Angels in 2014 and she played strong characters in both the movies. Her performance as Nandini in Varsham, was highly appreciated by the audience and critics.

Kalpana, who amazed the audience as Nivin Pauly's greedy mother in Bangalore Days, surprised the audience with her role Kochuvava in the movie The Dolphins.

Bhama, who had 4 releases in 2014, earned extremely positive reviews for performance as 14 year old mother Kala, in Ottamandaram. Her other releases were critical and commercial failures.

Manju Warrier (How Old Are You)

Manju Warrier made a fabulous comeback with Roshan Andrews directed How Old Are You. Her performance as UD clerk Nirupama earned rave reviews from both audience and critics. The actress doubtlessly deserves an entry into the Best Actress nominations.

Nazriya Nazim (Om Shanti Oshana, Bangalore Days)

Cute actress Nazriya Nazim makes her entry into the nomination list, with her charming performances as Pooja Mathew in Om Shanti Oshana and Divya in Bangalore Days. 2014 was doubtlessly the best year in Nazriya career as well as personal life.

Aparna Gopinath (Munnariyippu)

Aparna Gopinath mesmerized audience with her extraordinary acting skills, by her performance in Munnariyippu. The actress played the cunning journalist Anjali Arackkal to near perfection and that makes her eligible for the Best Actress trophy of 2014.

Asha Sarath (Varsham)

Asha Sarath enters the Best Actress nominations with her touching performance in Varsham. Unlike her earlier roles, she played a simple house wife, Nandini who lives for her husband and son. Her performance was highly appreciated by the audience and critics.

Kalpana (The Dolphins)

Kalpana, the actress who is popular for her impeccable comic timing, enters the Best Actress nomination list with her performance in the movie The Dolphins. She made the audience and critics awestruck with her amazing performance as Kochuvava, in the movie. 

Parvathy (Special Mention)

Parvathy was an almost forgotten actress for Malayali audience till the release of Bangalore Days. But, the actress conquered the minds of audience with performance as RJ Sarah, a paralyzed girl with full of positive energy. Parvathy deserves a special mentioning for her exuberant acting skills.

Srinda Ashab (Special Mention)

Srinda Ashab enters the special mention category with her extraordinary performance in the movie 1983. Even though she was not the lead actress of the movie; the actress stole the show as innocent Susheela.

Anusree (Special Mention)

Anusree, the versatile actress grabs a special mention for her electrifying performance as Alby, a guy who gets the physique of a girl named Janaki. Anusree wondered the audience with her brilliant performance in action sequences and once again proved that she is different from her contemporaries.
