National Film Awards: Best Malayalam Feature Films (2004-2014)

National Film Award is doubtlessly the most prestigious award of the country. When it comes to Malayalam movies, the industry has always been in the top league of National Film Awards, with the highest number of award and recognitions.

 

Malayalam movie industry holds several awards in the National Film Awards category; including the record for receiving the highest number of Best Actor, Second Best Actress and Best Singer Male trophies (Mammootty, KPAC Lalitha and K J Yesudas).

Another record held by the industry is the second highest number of Best Director. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, the Malayali director has won 5 awards in the category. The industry is in the third position when it comes to Best Feature Film award, with 11 trophies.

National Film Awards consist of a special category for the Best Regional Feature Films. The award is given to the Best Movies from 16 regional languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu etc. Neelakuyil, the classic movie jointly directed by P Bhaskaran and Ramu Kariat, was the first film to win the award.

In last 10 years, some exceptional films which earned both critical acclaims and boxoffice success, won the award in Best Malayalam Feature Film category. Interestingly, Prithviraj is the only actor who has been a part of more than one award winning movie. 5 Prithviraj starrer films have won the award in last 10 years.
