Malayalam actors are well-known for the variety of the roles they choose. When the stars from most the film industries are highly concerned about the image of the each character they play, Mollywood actors are very keen about maintaining the image.
But out stars have missed some brilliant movies due to various reasons. Most of the big projects missed by the popular actors later went on to some struggling actors and has become the turning point in their respective careers.
Rajavinte Makan, directed by Thambi Kannanthanam is one of the best example for such films. The movie was initially offered to Mammootty. But the actor turned down the offer, as he was not satisfied with the script.
Later, the movie went on to Mohanlal, who immediately accepted the offer. Rajavinte Makan was an image makeover for Mohanlal, who was widely considered as a boy next door.
Similarly, director K Madhu had approached Mohanlal to play the role Sethurama Iyer in classic crime thriller Oru CBI Diary Kurippu. But the actor rejected the offer, as he felt that he did not fits the character.
Blockbuster movie Classmates directed by Lal Jose did wonders to the career of Narain, who was then an 'almost forgotten' actor. The role was initially offered to Kunchacko Boban, who turned down the offer due to his business commitments.
Recently, Prithviraj refused to be a part of blockbuster Bollywood flick Happy New Year, as he was not impressed with the theme and his role. Instead, he opted for the antagonist role in Kaaviya Thalaivan, which earned him huge critical acclaims.
