Suresh Gopi, the actor who has not been in touch with the Association Of Malayalam Actors (AMMA) since last few years, revealed the reason behind his clash with the association. The actor opened up about his issues with AMMA, in a recent interview given to a popular Malayalam Television channel.
According to Suresh Gopi, the actor along with Biju Menon and Kalpana, decided to participate in the popular programme Arabian Dreams, upon the instruction of AMMA, in 1997. It was decided that he won't be charging any remuneration for the programme. Instead of paying him, the programme committee had agreed to pay Rs 5 lakhs to AMMA.
But after the programme, the committee changed their decision and failed to make the payment. Suresh Gopi was highly criticized by the members of the association. The actor recalls that it was Jagathy Sreekumar and Jagadheesh, who criticized him to the core. Later, Suresh Gopi was also forced to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakhs to compensate for the loss of AMMA.
This was the issue which made the actor to keep a distance from the association. Suresh Gopi hasn't participated in the meeting of AMMA since the issue. The actor says that Jagathy Sreekumar and Jagadheesh were extremely keen to put the blame on his head; and that was the factor which hurt him a lot.
