When we hear that our favourite star is coming in a guest role in a film, it is bound to raise the expectations. Banking on that, our filmmakers try to rope in stars of the industry to appear in cameo roles or special appearances.
Today, we are going to discuss about 6 guest appearances in Malayalam films that failed to make an impression.
Manju Warrier In Paavada
This came as a surprise package but it has to be said that the move didn't hit the right chords. Even though the film Pavada was a big hit, this guest role in the film did receive thumbs down from the viewers.
Amitabh Bachchan In Kandahar
Well, this wasn't really a guest appearance, but it was more of a special appearance. The actor was hugely wasted in a poorly written role and the only saving grace was the combination scenes between Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan.
Mohanlal In Unnathangalil
Guest appearance by superstar Mohanlal, that too in a mass avatar, what else does a film need to get an added mileage. But, sadly this film brought the talented actor for a very poorly written role that went unnoticed.
Mammootty In Best Of Luck!
Mammootty appeared as himself in this film which was a rehash of the Hindi film All the Best . The actor was wasted in an unwanted and poorly written role.
Bhavana In Mulla
Bhavan did quite an unnecessary character in this Lal Jose film which was similar to the character done by Anil Kapoor in Chandralekha.
Rimi Tomy In Kunjiramayanam
Kunjiramayanam had couple of surprise packages. One was the special appearance by Biju menon, which won the hearts of many. But, the other one was the guest appearance by Rimi Tomy which wasn't well received by the audiences.
Many times, we have seen guest appearances by stars receiving wide appreciation. When Mohanlal appeared in Summer In Bethlahem in a cameo role, he earned wide appreciations from all quarters.
Similarly, when Mammootty appeared in the film Narasimham, it looked extremely good and we got to witness a powerful performance from the actor.
What matters here the most is the context in which the actor/actress is appearing. It would look extremely bad if a star has been forced into a movie without the script really demanding it.
This has to be the main reason why certain guest apperances in films go unnoticed and receive flak from the viewers. Stars too make certian appearances out of friendship they maintain with the makers or the co-stars.
It is a fact that the presence of stars, even for a minute would help to boost the mileage of the movie. But, the makers should also look in to the fact whether the script demands it or not.
