Revenge dramas are one of the most popular genres in cinema. Umpteen number of films have been made in this particular genre.
In Mollywood, this genre started gaining popularity in the 1980s. Most of the action thrillers of those days had revenge as the central theme.

New Delhi
Well, New Delhi has to be the mother of all revenge movies in Malayalam. This film directed by Joshiy, had Mammootty in the role of a media tycoon named G Krishnamoorthy, who takes revenge on people who had once distorted his normal life.
Chanakyan
Chanakyan, by far, is one of the best brainy revenge thrillers of Malayalam cinema. The film, directed by T K Rajeev Kumar, had Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Chanakyan, had good moments of thrill, without questioning the logic.
Thazhvaram
Well, only someone like M T Vasudevan Nair, could have thought of scripting a revenge movie of this sorts. The premises, the characterisation, the narrative pattern etc. were all different. Add to it, the brilliant making by Bharathan, the film became a classic.
Pingami

Theevram
Theevram, wasn't a big success when it was released in the theatres. But, with the release of the DVDs, the film gained attention. The narrative pattern of the film and the mode of revenge, make it worthy enough to enter this list.
Bhramaram
Bhramaram proceeds like a road movie until the revenge factor comes in to play. Blessy has made this film in a peculiar fashion, mixing up the elements of revenge and suspense in equal fashion.
Next in the line is Prithviraj starrer Oozham, directed by Jeethu Joseph. The film marks the comeback of the director-actor duo, after their much acclaimed movie, Memories, which released in the year 2013.
In fact, Memories too, had revenge theme underlined in it, but the film was more in the lines of an investigative thriller.
Coming to Oozham, Jeethu Joseph has clarified that the film is a revenge drama and won't be having any suspense element in it. The director also gave away that the suspense element of the film would be revealed within the first 10 minutes of the film.
Well, going by the indications given by the trailer of Oozham, we surely can expect a thrilling revenge drama from Jeethu Joseph and we hope that the film would find a place in the list of best revenge movies of Malayalam.
