Dulquer Salmaan's Kali: Varthinkale Song Review

By Akhila Menon

The first song of Kali, the upcoming Dulquer Salmaan movie, is out. The song, which starts Varthinkale is composed by Gopi Sundar, penned by BK Harinarayanan, and sung by Divya S Menon.

The 4.33 seconds long portrays the life of the newly married couple, Siddharth and Anjali, played by Dulquer Salmaan and Sai Pallavi. The major highlight of the song is the excellent chemistry between the pair.

It features how Anjali converts the short-tempered Siddharth into a cool person. Varthinkale is rich with a good tune and exceptional lyrics. But the playback voice fails to impress us.

Singer Divya S Menon has sung some excellent songs earlier, including the chartbuster Mangalyam from Bangalore Days. But, she couldn't bring the soul into Varthinkale, thus, the song lacks the feel.

The song, which is highly soothing and romantic, demands a very expressive voice. But, that flaw is concealed by the highly romantic visualisation, which effectively used Dulquer and Pallavi's chemistry.

Kali is directed by Sameer Thahir and penned by Rajesh Gopinadhan. Shyju Khalid is the director of photography. The movie which is produced by Handmade Films, will hit the theatres on March 26th.
