Well, the year 2016, is nearing its completion. The year, so far, has been a good one for Malayalam films and the industry, with many films having clicked at the Kerala box office.

Apart from Malayalam films, some other language movies also went on to make an impact at the Kerala box office. In fact, some movies like Kabali and The Jungle Book, made it big at the Kerala box office, giving a tight competition to Malayalam films.

The film, which was distributed in Kerala by Aashirvad cinemas through Maxlab, turned out to be a profitable venture for them.

The Jungle Book, which released in the month of April, did have a magnificent run in Kerala theatres. The film, did some big business, especially in multiplex centres. Reportedly, the film fetched close to 3.8 Crores from Ernakulam multiplex centres alone. The movie was the pick of the family audiences, during the summer vacation season.

Vikram Kumar's 24 was Suriya's big release of the year. The film did receive good reviews in Kerala and reportedly, the film crossed the 10-Crore mark at the Kerala box office. If reports are to be believed, 24 is the highest grossing movie of Suriya, in Kerala.

Vikram's Irumugan opened at above 100 screens in Kerala, making it one of the big releases during the Onam season. Despite facing stiff competition from Mohanlal's Oppam, the movie managed to do a good business in Kerala and made a gross collection of approximately 9 Crores.

M S Dhoni: The Untold Story, based on the life of cricketer Dhoni, did open to good response in Kerala theatres. The film, which had Sushant Singh Rajput, in the lead role, did do a decent business at the Kerala box office.

Majority of the movies, from the above list are Tamil films and it shouldn't come as a surprise to any. In fact, Tamil movies and their stars have had a huge fan following in Kerala.

Actors like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya, Vikram etc., enjoy a huge fan base in different parts of Kerala. All these actors have had one release, each in this year.

Meanwhile, the Christmas season would witness the release of Aamir Khan's Dangal and Suriya's Singam 3. Both the films are expected to do some grand business at the Kerala box office.
