Malayalam Movies Of 2016 That Didn't Live Up To The Expectations!

The year 2016 has been an exciting one for Malayalam film industry. The number of movies released in the year were on the higher side. While many films impressed the viewers certain others didn't.
In fact, the year witnessed the arrival some of the most awaited malayalam movies. Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan, which was one of the most awaited movies of 2016, won the hearts of the audiences and emerged as big hit.
Nevertheless, much like the previous years, the year 2016 also had its own share of positives and negatives. There were certain movies, that were unable to live up to the expectations bestowed on them. Here, we list some of the Malayalam movies of 2016, which couldn't live up to the hype.
Darwinte Parinamam
Prithviraj was riding high on the back-to-back successes of his movie, until Darwinte Parinamam released. The film was high on expectations, especially as it was produced by the actor's production banner. But, the film failed to live up to the expectations and was panned by the critics.
Leela
Leela, directed by Ranjith was one of the most awaited movies of the year. The film, scripted by Unni R was based on the highly acclaimed short story written by himself. But, the film couldn't weave the same magic on the screen.
King Liar
Yes, King Liar was one of the biggest hits of the year, as the film raked in huge money. But, it is a fact that more was expected from this movie which marked the reunion of Siddique-Lal team. In fact, the film was way below the standards set by the team, which gave us classics like Ramji Rao Speaking, Godfather, In Harihar Nagar etc.
School Bus
A film scripted by Bobby-sanjay team and directed by Rosshan Andrews. What else is required to bestow huge expectations on the movie? But, on the flip side the film couldn't maintain the same standards of the team's previous ventures and ended up receiving mixed reviews.
Kasaba
There is no denying the fact that Kasaba is one of the biggest hits of Mammootty in 2016. But, it should be said that more was expected from this film. The movie, was in the lines of usual police stories and was only able to satisfy the actor's fans.
White
The first teaser of White did seemingly raise the expectations on the movie. The film was touted to be a love story, with a different angle. The movie got released after multiple postponements and failed to deliver any goods. White failed miserably at the box office.
Oozham
Jeethu Joseph and Prithviraj teaming up after the super hit movie Memories! This factor was more than enough to raise the expectations on the film. Moreover, the film was touted to be in the lines of a revenge drama. But, the film was nowhere near the previous movie of the team.
It should be noted that all the films mentioned in the above list weren't flops and the list hasn't been assembled based on box office factors alone. Reviews and the general opinion that the above movies received have also been taken to consideration. For eg: Kasaba and King Liar were big hits but these movies couldn't receive overwhelming postive reviews from all sides.
