The last three weeks have been a quiet one for the Malayalam film industry with not many big movies making it to the theatres.
But, Malayalam film industry is all set to witness a grand Ramzan season with a good number of films gearing up to hit the theatres in the month of July.

Undoubtedly, Kasaba is all set to be the biggest release of this season. The movie is eyeing on close to 150 theatres for its release and more importantly the film marks the comeback of Mammootty to police officer roles. The film directed by Nithin Renji Panikker is expected to be a mass masala entertainer that would perfectly suit the mood of the festival season. The film would hit the theatres on July 7, 2016.
With its ensemble star cast, Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum too, has a good amount of hype associated with it. The film featuring Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya and Amala Paul in the lead roles has been directed by Boban Samuel. The film is said to be a comedy entertainer and that definitely is a big plus for the movie. The movie would hit the theatres on July 7, 2016.
The film was earlier expected to release in the month of May but had to push forward the release date. This sports based movie directed by Deepu Karunakaran has gone on to impress everyone with the film's trailer and the recently released making video. The film has Manju Warrier in the role of a Volleyball coach and it is definitely going to be a different one from the talented actress. The film is expected to release in first week of July.
Pa.Va, which has Anoop Menon and Murali Gopy in the lead roles is expected to hit the theatres in the month of July. The film directed by debutante Sooraj Tom is said to be a different film as the movie would be having both the lead characters in the role of two aged men.
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, starring Biju Menon and Asif Ali in the lead roles, is also expected to be an Eid release. The film produced by August Cinema has been directed by debutante Khalid Rahman. The release date of the film has not been officially announced yet.
This is a common phenomenon since there won't be many big releases during the fasting season of Ramzan. The previous big release was School Bus, directed by Rosshan Andrews, which released on May 27, 2016.
Meanwhile, the previous Friday, June 17, 2016, witnessed the release of two small films, in the form of Lens and Ozhivudivasathe Kali. Both the films have went on to garner good reviews.
Dulquer Salmaan's Kammatipaadam, which released on May 20, 2016, is doing good business at the box-office and has done well to hold most of the centres. The film which has garnered good collections has emerged as a hit.

The Ramzan season would also witness the release of some other language films in Kerala, which are coming with huge hype. Salmaan Khan's Sultan is the prominent one among them, which has been slated as an Eid release.
