Well, Mammootty has been tagged as the Megastar of Mollywood for all the right reasons. In his acting career spanning above 36 years, the actor has given a number of blockbusters, which went on to make and break certain box office records.
The actor has delivered some industry hits, which went on to set a benchmark for the box office collection records in Malayalam cinema. Here, we list some of the Mammootty movies from the past, which went on to become industry hits.
Aa Rathri (1983)
Aa Raathri, which released in the year 1983, was one of the movies in the early phases of the actor's career. The movie, which was a revenge drama, went on to become a big hit and grossed close to 1 Crore at the box office. In fact, the film was one of the first Malayalam films to achieve this feat.
New Delhi (1987)
New Delhi, came in at a time when Mammootty was completely written-off, having delivered a string of flops. But, the actor came back strongly with New Delhi, which emerged as a big success, eclipsing all the previous box office records of Malayalam cinema.
The King (1995)
Well, The King marked the first association of Shaji Kailas-Mammootty team. The film did set some big records at the box office. The film did witness one of the biggest openings for a Malayalam cinema in those times and in its long run, The King emerged as an all-time blockbuster, breaking the records set by Manichitrathazhu.
Hitler, did face a stiff competition from Mohanlal's Kaalapani, which was released along with it. But, this film which had Mammootty in full-form emerged the clear winner of the season. In the due course of its run, the movie went on to break many box office records. The film made a gross collection above 8 Crores and emerged as an industry hit.
Mammootty had to wait till 2005, to deliver another industry hit. Rajamanikyam, which released in the year 2005, was a tremendous success at the box office. The film broke the collection records set by Narasimham and went on to cross the 25-Crore mark at the box office.
Well, apart from the above mentioned movies, there is also the film Twenty-20, which was an industry hit. The film had big stars of Mollywood like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, Dileep etc., in the lead roles.
At present, it is Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan, which is the top grosser of Mollywood. Having crossed the 100-Crore mark, the film has broken the records of Mohanlal's another film, Drishyam.
Mammootty has some big movies in his kitty, which has the capability to emerge as an industry hit. One among that is the actor's upcoming film The Great Father, directed by Haneef Adeni.
The film, which has been tagged as a stylish entertainer is expected to hit the theatres in the month of December. We hope that this film too would went on to script some box office records.
