Is it possible for a lead actor to give 21 hits in a year? If you thought that it is impossible, you are in for a surprise, because our own Malayalam film industry witnessed one such rare feat. And it is none other than Mohanlal who created this magical record.

The year 1986 witnessed something very rare and indeed special. 21 movies which had Mohanlal in them went on to be box-office hits. Here, we present the list of successful movies of Mohanlal from the year 1986.

Ninnishtam Ennishtam

The film directed by Aleppy Ashraf had the script written by director Priyadarshan. The film had some beautiful songs and emerged as a box-office success.

Pappan Priyapetta Pappan

This film had Rahman doing the lead role. Mohanlal had made an extended cameo appearance. The film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad had script written by Siddique-Lal.

Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu

One of the biggest hits of 1986. This comedy caper by Priyadarshan had Mohanlal and Mukesh in the lead roles along with a host of other actors.

Panchagni

The film handled a women-centric theme and Geetha portrayed the lead role. The film directed by Hariharan and written by M T Vasudevan Nair had Mohanlal playing an important role in it.

Kariyilakkattupole

A cult-classic by Padmarajan which gained great reviews and critical acclaim. Mohanlal appeared in the role of a Police Officer in this film.

Vartha

The film which released on February 28th 1986, had Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead roles. Vartha, directed by I V Sasi was a hit at the box-office.

Hello My Dear Wrong Number

Another comedy caper from Priyadarshan which was inspired from Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest. Mohanlal played the lead role in this comic thriller.

Poomukhapadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu

Mohanlal again, was seen doing an extendedcameo appearance in this film which had Mammootty, Sreevidya and Rahman in the lead roles.

Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottaam

A well-crafted film by Sibi Malayil which had Mohanlal in the role of a fake teacher. 

Yuvajanotsavam

Yuvajanotsavam directed by Sreekumaran Thampi had Mohanlal in top gear. The film which was a campus based flick clicked well at the box-office.

Shobaraj

The Malayalam remake of Hindi super-hit film Don, had Mohanlal playing the lead role. The film directed by J Sasikumar was well-accepted.

Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare

A film that utilised the voice of Mohanlal to the best. A very intense and touching movie directed by Raghunath Paleri.

Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam

An evergreen classic written by Sreenivasan and directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. The film went on to become a big success at the box-office.

Adiverukal

Adiverukal directed by P Anil, had Mohanlal playing the lead role along with actors like Suresh Gopi, Mukesh, Karthika etc.

Deshadanakili Karayarilla

A cult-classic by Padmarajan which gained great reviews and critical acclaim. Mohanlal appeared in the role of a Police Officer in this film.

T P Balagopalan M A

Sathyan Anthikkad and Sreenivasan gifted Mohanlal this film, which eventually fetched the actor his first State Award For The Best Actor.

After Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam and T P Balagopalan M A, the year 1986 saw another film from the same team. Gandhinagar Second Street repeated the success of other two films .

The biggest hit among the lot. Interestingly, with the big success that this film enjoyed, Mohanlal was proclaimed a superstar.

Namukku Paarkkaan Munthirithoppukal

One of the finest love stories in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal portrayed the role of Solomon and his performance in this film is still considered to be one of his best.

Sukhamo Devi

Mohanlal appeared as Sunny in this film directed by Venu Nagavalli. Actor Shankar also played an important role in this film.

Thalavattam

Priyadarshan tried his hands at a different genre with this film. Mohanlal excelled as a character with mental disorder. The movie went on to be a big success.

Interestingly, 34 movies of Mohanlal got released in 1986, a record number indeed which would be really hard to break.

Out of the 34 movies released, most of them did have Mohanlal playing the lead role or a second-hero role. The year saw him mixing both class and mass. He did important roles in movies like Panchagni, Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare etc. which explored the actor in him.
