Veeram, is an upcoming magnum opus, directed by Jayaraj. The film, which has been made in different languages like Malayalam, English and Hindi, is touted to be the costliest Malayalam film ever made. Reportedly, the budget of the film is said to be 35 Crores.
Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009)
Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja was one such Malayalam film, which showed the possibilities of big budget films in Malayalam. The film made with a budget of close to 27 Crores, was produced by Gokulam films.
Nothing much has to be said about this Mohanlal starrer. The film, which has been made under a budget of 24 Crores is one of the costliest Mohanlal movies of all time. Well, it has to be said that, the money spent on the film was worth it.
Urumi marked the debut of the production banner August Cinema, jointly owned by Prithviraj, Shaji Nadesan and Santhosh Sivan. They chose to begin with a project, which was in the lines of a periodic drama. If reports are to believed, the film was made with a budget of 20 Crores.
Double Barrel (2015)
Double Barrel is another big budget film produced by August Cinema. The film, which was in the lines of a gangster comedy, saw some big stars teaming up. The film, was made under a huge canvas and the budget of the film reportedly crossed 15 Crores.
Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015)
Many won't believe that Ennu Ninte Moideen is one of the most expensive Malayalam films, of all time. The film was shot in various schedules and the budget of the film reportedly touched 12 Crores. Well, the quality of the film was on the higher side and the film went on to become the second biggest grosser of Malayalam.
Well, Casanovva came in amidst huge expectations. The film, at the time of its release, was one of the costliest Malayalam films. Casanovva was mainly shot in foreign locations on various schedules. The budget of the film crossed 12 Crores.
Not all the films in the above list fetched profit for the producers. But, most of the films like Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, Urumi etc., made huge box office collections as well as fetched excellent reviews.
But, Pulimurugan is different and has set many box office records straight away. Going at the present rate, the film might end up being the first Malayalam movie to reach the 100 Crore club.
Following the footsteps of Pulimurugan, another big budget Malayalam movie is all set to hit the theatres. It is none other than Jayaraj's Veeram, which is all set to make it big in Mollywood.
