The film directed by Joshiy had Mammootty and Poornima Jayaram in the lead roles. Aa Raathri, which released in the year 1983 went on to become a big hit and it is one of the first Malayalam movies to gross 1 Crore at the box office.
New Delhi (1987), directed by Joshiy, marked the big comeback of the actor after a dull phase. The film emerged as a big hit and according to some reports the film is among the first Malayalam movies to get a share of 1 Crore.
Oru CBI Diary Kurippu
Well, this is one record which would be really hard to break. Mammootty's Oru CBI Diarykurippu, which released in the year 1988, did have a fantastic run in Chennai. The film ran continuously for 365 days at Safire theatre in Chennai.
Rajamanikyam, which released in the year 2006 went on to break all the collection records in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film is also the first Malayalam movie to collect 1 Crore from a particular centre alone.
Annan Thambi, directed by Anwar Rasheed was released in the year 2008. At that time wide release wasn't that common and it was this film that brought the trend of wide release to effect.
Parunth was one such movie, which released amidst huge expectations. The film did have a grand opening and the first show of the film was held at 12 midnight. It was for the first time that a Malayalam movie was screened at midnight.
Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja
The film had one of the biggest releases ever seen in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film had a bumper opening and it collected more than 1.5 Crores on Day 1 from the box-office, which was a record back then.
Maximum Number Of Hits In Tamil
Mammootty has acted in a good number of Tamil films and he is quite popular in the state of Tamil Nadu. Most of his films were big hits in Tamil Nadu and he holds the record for delivering the maximum number of superhit Tamil films by a Malayalam superstar.
Only Malayalam Actor To Have Acted In 6 Languages
Mammootty is the only Malayalam actor who has acted in films of 6 different languages. The actor has so far acted in films of different languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English.
Mammootty's most recent release was White, which hit the theatres on July 29, 2016. Before White, he came up with Kasaba, which had the actor in the role of a police officer.
Many did doubt the actor's crowd-pulling capability and he went on to silence all his critics with the film Kasaba. Kasaba had a massive opening at the box office and grossed close to 2.48 Crores on the first day of its release.
The film broke the record set by Dulquer Salmaan's Kali, which collected 2.34 Crores on its opening day.
Mammootty's most recent release White, didn't have a good outing at the box office. The actor's next release is Thoppil Joppan and high hopes are pinned up on the movie as the actor would be back to 'achayan' roles with the film.
