It has been years since the two big stars of Mollywood, Mammootty & Mohanlal started ruling the industry together. Unlike the olden days, now the industry doesn't revolve around these two actors alone.
But still, it is always a precious moment when the films of Mammootty & Mohanlal make it to the theatres. It becomes even more special when films of both these actors clash at the box office.
Now, if reports are to be believed, we would get to see an epic box office clash, once again, when the films of Mammootty & Mohanlal will be seen locking the horns at the box office in the same season.
Reportedly, Mammootty's upcoming big budget venture, directed by Ajai Vasudev, the shoot of which is currently progressing at a fast pace, is gearing up for a big release during the upcoming Onam season.
On the other hand, Mohanlal's most awaited upcoming project, which would see him associating with popular film-maker Lal Jose, is also being planned as an Onam release of 2017. The shoot of the film is expected to begin by the second week of May.
The Common Factor
Interestingly, both the above films do share a common factor. Both these upcoming films will be set against the backdrop of college campus. Mammootty will be seen playing the role of a Professor named Edward Livingstone whereas Mohanlal would appear as a Vice-Principal of a college.
The Great Father Vs 1971 Beyond Borders
In 2017, we saw the films of both these actors releasing within a gap of one week. Mammootty's The Great Father hit the theatres on March 30, 2017 whereas Mohanlal's 1971 Beyond Borders release a week after, on April 7, 2017. It was the Mammootty starrer that won the big battle at the box office.
When The Great Father was Expected To Release Along With Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol
Interestingly, reports were doing the rounds in 2016 that the Christmas season of that year, would witness a big battle at the box office. Both Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol and The Great Father was expected to release during the same season but both the movies got postponed, due to various reasons.
The Epic Clash: Pulimurugan Vs Thoppil Joppan
It came as a big surprise to the Malayalam film audiences, when it was announced that Mohanlal's Pulimurugan and Mammootty's Thoppil Joppan would release on the same date. Many believed it as a rumour, but surprisingly, we got to witness an epic battle with Pulimurugan, winning the final race.
Mammootty And Mohanlal's 2017 So far
The year so far has been a mixed bag for both Mammootty & Mohanlal. Mammootty got a big hit in the form of The Great Father whereas he had to face a backlash with Puthan Panam. Similarly, Mohanlal started off the year with the big hit Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which was followed by the forgettable 1971 Beyond Borders.
