The Great Father, which hit the theatres on March 30, 2017 is still the talk of the M'town. The Mammootty starrer has set some big records at the box office and thus giving a big boost to the industry.

Apart from The Great Father's hunt at the box office, the results of the 64th National Film Awards also came in as a pleasant surprise to the Malayalam film industry. Read about these and other major Mollywood news of the week.

The Great Father's Hunt At The Box Office

The Great Father's amazing run at the box office continues. The film, which took a bumper opening did have a great weekend, as well. According to the reports, the film managed to cross the 20-Crore mark within 4 dyas of time and thus making it the fastest Malayalam movie to achieve this feat.

1971 Beyond Borders Opens To Mixed Reviews

Mohanlal starrer 1971 Beyond Borders, directed by Major Ravi did hit the theatres on April 07, 2017. The movie, which had a big release has opened to mixed reviews from the audiences.

64th National Film Awards Announced

The results of the 64th National Film Awards were announced and it was a proud moment for Malayalam film industry as some of the big awards came its way.

Actress Surabhi was adjudged the Best Actress for her performance in Minnaminungu whereas Mohanlal also won a special jury award for his performances in Pulimurugan, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol and Janatha Garage. Syam Pushkar was adjudged the best scriptwriter for his work in Maheshinte Prathikaaram.

Peter Hein won the award for Best Choreographer for his work in Pulimurugan. Aadish Praveen was adjudged the Best Child Actor.

Puthan Panam Gets A New Release Date

Mammootty-Ranjith team's Puthan Panam will hit the theatres much earlier than expected. The movie will grace the theatres as a Vishu release and the makers have locked April 12, 2017 as the new release date of the movie.

Mammootty and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar To Team Up Once Again

If reports are to be believed, popular actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is all set play the feamle lead in Mammootty's upcoming movie with Ajai Vasudev. Earlier, Mammootty and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar had teamed up for the movie Kasaba.

Take Off Impresses Kollywood Celebrities

Take Off, which hit the theatres on March 24, 2017 is still the talk of the town. The movie has won praises of Kollywood celebrities like Suriya, Kamal Haasan, Sivakarthikeyan etc. The celebrities took to their respective Twitter accounts to praise the movie.

Dhyan Sreenivasan Gets Hitched

Young actor Dhyan Sreenivasan got married to his longtime girlfriend Arpita Sebastian on April 07, 2017 in Kannur. The marriage ceremony was attended by the near and dear ones of Sreenivasan family.


Meanwhile, Mohanlal starrer 1971 Beyond Borders was expected to break the records set by The Great Father, but it has failed to do so. The public response is also not that favourable for 1971 Beyond Borders.

On the other hand, some big Malayalam movies are all set to make this Vishu and Easter season a big one for the sudiences. As mentioned above, Mammootty starrer Puthan Panam will be the first one to hit the theatres on April 12, 2017.

Nivin Pauly's much awaited movie Sakhavu will also make it to the theatres this week. The film, directed by Sidhartha Siva has been scheduled for a release on April 15, 2017. Asif Ali's Adventures Of Omanakuttan might also make it to the theatres in this week.
