Thalsamayam
Oru
Penkutty,
directed
by
TK
Rajeev
Kumar
has
Nithya
Menon,
Swetha
Menon,
Unni
Mukundan
and
Siddique
play
the
lead
role.
Thalsamayam
Oru
Penkutty
is
a
contemporary
take
on
reality
shows.
People
who
are
addicted
to
reality
shows
(especially
Hindi
show
audience)
like
Bigg
Boss
and
UTV
Bindass'
Khan
Sisters
will
be
able
to
relate
best
to
this
craze
of
reality
shows.
The
concept
of
weaving
a
plot
around
a
reality
show
is
a
brilliant
idea.
However,
it
is
very
important
that
the
script
is
extremely
engaging
with
crisp
editing
and
outstanding
performance.
However,
director
TK
Rajeev
Kumar
lets
you
down
tremendously.
Moreover,
the
film
could
have
been
made
shorter
by
at
least
15-20
minutes.
Thalsamayam
Oru
Penkutty
gets
extremely
monotonous,
especially
in
the
second
half.
You
are
then
waiting
for
the
movie
to
just
get
over!
What's
most
ridiculous
is
that
the
NRI
couple
watching
the
show
with
a
glass
of
wine,
a
group
of
friends
who
have
come
shopping
and
a
guy
exercising
on
treadmill
is
shown
doing
the
same
for
one
whole
month!
Screenplay
by
Sunny
Joseph
and
Manuel
George
are
amateur,
whereas
visuals
by
Vinod
Ellampilly
and
music
by
Sharath
is
strictly
okay.
Story
An
innocent
girl,
hailing
from
a
modest
background
named
Manjula
Ayyappan
(Nithya
Menon)
is
the
first
contestant
to
participate
in
a
live
TV
reality
show
named
Thalsamayam
Oru
Penkutty.
Sareena
(Swetha
Menon)
is
the
brain
behind
this
concept,
while
Ravi
Kumar
(Siddique)
heads
the
channel.
Thomas
(Baburaj)
is
Sareena’s
rival
here.
Cameras
keep
following
Manjula
wherever
she
goes
for
a
month
and
people
get
glued
to
their
TV
sets.
Sareena
is
the
only
one
with
some
conscience,
while
the
head
of
the
channel
and
other
staff
are
ready
to
do
anything
to
increase
the
TRP
of
the
show.
Performances
Nithya
Menon
is
truly
a
directors'
actress!
Though
Nithya
is
capable
of
giving
an
outstanding
performance,
a
lot
depends
on
how
the
director
moulds
her.
Swetha
Menon,
as
usual
is
impeccable.
All
the
other
stars
in
the
film
have
given
an
average
performance.
Overall,
Thalsamayam
Oru
Penkutty
is
a
very
plain
fare!
