Charlie Movie Review: Spread Happiness


Charlie is the romantic comedy, which stars Dulquer Salmaan in the titular role. The movie, which stars Parvathy in the female lead, is directed by Martin Prakkat and written by Unni R. Charlie is produced by Martin, Joju George, and Shebin Bekkan, under the banner Finding Cinema.

Charlie Story

Charlie (Dulquer) is a young man, who has the life experience which overshadows his age. He loves traveling and believes in enjoying the life to the fullest. He considers life as a celebration and tries to bring happiness in the lives of the people around him.

Tessa (Parvathy) is a graphical artist, with a sensitive outlook towards life. The movie depicts the love story of Charlie and Tessa, and how their love influences the lives of the people around them.


Dulquer Salmaan is just brilliant as Charlie. The actor is stunning as the free-spirited young man. It is commendable; that he has been improving as an actor, with each film.

Parvathy, who plays Tessa, just steals the show with her matured acting skills. She is undoubtedly the finest actress of her generation. The on-screen chemistry between Dulquer and Parvathy forms the soul of the movie. 

The rest of the cast, including Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu, KPAC Lalitha, Kalpana, Tovino Thomas, Chemban Vinod, Soubin Shaheer, Ramesh Pisharady, etc have played their parts to near perfection. 

Script And Direction

Unni R, the scenarist has completely succeeded in converting a light love story into a very fresh movie experience, with his perfectly written script. The strength of the movie is the perfect characterization, which compliments the situations.

Martin Prakkat, the director has brilliantly executed the film, and his confidence on the characters and screenplay is visible in each scene. The movie equally caters to the entertainment lovers and die-hard movie lovers.

Technical Aspects

Cinematographer Jomon T John mesmerizes once again with his breath-taking visualization. Jomon's exceptional skills have made Charlie a perfect visual treat. Sameera Saneesh, the costume designer deserves a special applause.


National Award-winning musician Gopi Sundar has composed the songs and background score for the movie. Gopi's different yet rhythmic tunes have completely complimented the nature of the movie; while his background score is just brilliant.


A simple, fresh, feel-good love story. Highly recommended for this festive season.

Dulquer Salmaan

Dulquer Salmaan plays Charlie, a young man who has the life experience which overshadows his age. He loves traveling and believes in enjoying the life to the fullest.


Parvathy depicts Tessa, a graphic artist who falls in love with Charlie after a series of incidents. It is the second collaboration of Parvathy and Dulquer, after Bangalore Days.

Aparna Gopinath

Aparna plays Kani, a girl whom Charlie meets during one of his journeys. It is the second outing of Aparna with Dulquer and Martin, after her debut movie ABCD.

Nedumudi Venu

Nedumudi Venu plays Kunjappan, the man who plays a bridge between Charlie and Tessa. It is a light character with a touch of humour.

KPAC Lalitha

KPAC Lalitha, the veteran actress plays Rahelamma. It is said to be a character with a touch of humour.


Kalpana plays Queen Mary, a different yet challenging character in the movie.

Soubin Shaheer

Soubin Shaheer, who has already made a place for himself in the industry, is playing Sunikuttan aka Mr. D'souza in the movie.

Chemban Vinod

Chemban Vinod, the new busy bee of the industry, is playing Mathai aka Pathrose in the movie.
