Synopsis
The
story
of
Pinneyum
revolves
around
two
main
characters,
Purushothaman
and
Devi,
who
are
a
married
couple.
Devi
is
a
school
teacher
whereas
Purushothaman
is
still
in
search
of
a
job.
The
financial
crunch
forces
him
to
go
to
the
Gulf
regions,
in
search
of
a
job
and
the
changes
that
happen
when
he
comes
back,
forms
the
crux
of
the
story.
About
the
Movie
The
tagline
of
the
film
suggests
that
Pinneyum
is
not
just
a
love
story.
Rightly
so,
the
film
delves
deeply
in
to
the
importance
of
relationships,
love,
family
etc.
It
also
takes
a
look
at
how
the
job
crisis
and
greed
for
money
would
affect
the
life
of
a
common
man
and
in
turn
their
families.
Pinneyum
also
has
some
important
messages
to
deliver
and
that
too,
in
the
typical
Adoor
Gopalakrishnan
style.
Performances
Dileep
has
given
a
solid
performance
as
Purushothaman
Nair.
Not
even
in
a
single
scene
has
he
gone
overboard
and
has
delivered
a
controlled
performance.
A
big
round
of
applause
for
his
dialogue
delivery
and
the
body
language.
Kavya
Madhavan
makes
a
strong
comeback
in
the
role
of
Devi
and
her
performance
in
the
film
proves
that
a
lot
of
talent
is
remaining
in
her
to
be
tapped.
Vijayaraghavan,
Nedumudi
Venu,
Srinda
Arhaan
and
Indrans
have
given
some
brilliant
performances.
A
special
mention
to
Indrans,
who
has
now
made
it
a
point
to
impress
us
all
with
his
performance
films.
Nandu
and
KPAC
Lalitha
are
there
only
very
a
few
scenes,
but
still
they
have
made
an
impact.
Script
&
Direction
The
name
Adoor
Gopalakrishnan
itself
is
the
biggest
plus
point
of
the
film.
We
all
know
the
brilliance
of
the
director.
This
is
his
12th
film
and
he
proves
that
he
has
the
same
fire
and
creative
spark
in
him
to
give
some
brilliant
and
intense
works.
The
writer
in
him
has
sparkled
and
has
delivered
a
storyline
that
is
different.
In
fact,
the
director
this
time
has
opted
for
a
simple
narration
with
a
slight
touch
of
commercial
elements.There
are
some
trademark
Adoor
Gopalakrishnan
scenes,
which
have
symbolic
elements
associated
with
them.
At
the
same
time,
the
dialogues
could
have
been
less
dramatic.
The
slow
pace
might
test
the
patience
of
the
viewers
of
commercial
cinema,
but
that
is
Adoor
Gopalakrishnan's
approach
towards
cinema.
Cinematography
&
Editing
The
mastery
of
M
J
Radhakrishnan
has
come
to
play
in
full
effect.
He
has
set
some
realistic
frames
for
the
film.
Editing
by
B
Ajith
Kumar
is
top-notch
and
the
running
length
of
the
film
is
just
above
2
hours.
Music
There
are
no
songs
in
the
film
but
Bijibal
has
stamped
his
presence
in
the
film
by
providing
some
soulful
BGM.
Verdict
Pinneyum
is
a
complete
Adoor
Gopalakrishnan
film.
The
master
yet
again
proves
why
he
is
one
among
the
best
film-makers
of
Indian
cinema.
The
film
is
highly
recommended
to
the
lovers
of
offbeat
films.
