Amar Bhoopali (1952) - A Glance through Old Memories
'Amar Bhoopali' is one of greatest masterpiece and an old classic by master of Cinema 'V Shantaram'. Marathi biopic by V. Shantaram on poet Honajee released in 1952. It is a true story about a simple cow herder who has an innate gift of poetry set in waning days of Maratha confederacy early 19th century. It is an ode to the saffron flag of Marathas, calling on people to rise again against the foreign enemy. The film was nominated in the category of Grand Prize of the Festival at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival and starred Panditrao Nagarkar, Lalita Pawar, Sandhya and others in prominent roles is a musical film.
'Amar Bhoopali' still remains a cult film in the history of Marathi cinema and is still fondly remembered and evoked by the audiences.
